5Beef

According to recent studies children are most likely to consume inadequate amounts of iron, zinc and vitamin B6. Beef can enhance diet quality by supplying significant amounts of these nutrients in portions that children find easy to eat. There is no doubt that lean beef can enhance the nutritional quality of your child’s diet.

2Lamb

Lamb Lamb also has a high nutritional value and is an especially good source of easily absorbed zinc and iron. The recommended daily allowance provided by a three ounce serving of cooked lamb is 30% for zinc (essential for growth, tissue repair, and a healthy immune system) and 17% for iron (needed for the formation of red blood cells). Lamb is rich in B vitamins, especially B12.

3Chicken

Chicken is an excellent source of protein and a rich source of most B Vitamins. Chicken meat contains about 150 calories per 100 grams. Chicken is low in carbohydrate, low in fat with a moderate protein content. Chicken contains all the B Vitamins, especially B3, but only trace amounts of B12.

1Ostrich

Ostrich meat is described as having a sweeter and richer taste than other meats. It is is popular in European restuarants and is becoming more popular in America. It comes in a variety of cuts, including prime steaks, filets, sausages, burgers, stir-fry, and diced. It can be substituted for beef, pork, lamb, turkey, or chicken in virtually any recipe.

4Turkey

Turkey is low in fat and high in protein. It is an inexpensive source of iron, zinc, phosphorus, potassium and B vitamins. A serving of turkey is a 2 to 3-ounce cooked portion. The Food Guide Pyramid suggests 2 to 3 servings from the meat group each day.
